Tropeano veterans step up for Lynnfield veterans
Tony Tropeano and Sons Artistic Masonry is donating six workers and countless hours for the veneer work on the new Lynnfield Veterans Memorial on the Town Common. Tropeano and Sons, a company based in town, is owned by local resident Tony Tropeano Sr. Two of Tropeano’s sons, Pfc. Tony Tropeano Jr. and Staff Sgt. Joe Tropeano, work for their father and are working on the new memorial. The four other workers are Tony Tropeano Sr., his brother, Sgt. Jose Ortiz ID’d as man killed in shooting at Lowell temple parking lot
Officials on Tuesday identified a 43-year-old man killed in a shooting in the parking lot of a temple in Lowell as Jose Ortiz, a resident of Lowell. Ortiz was one of three people wounded when a gunman opened fire into a crowd of about 30 people that had assembled in the parking lot of the Swaminarayan Temple on Middlesex Street in Lowell early Tuesday morning. When police arrived to the parking lot, they found two men, including Ortiz, had been shot, Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan and Lowell Police Superintendent Greg Hudon said in a joint statement.

Slow start and increased cost of renovating Putnam School housing has CHA in litigation. The Cambridge Housing Authority and the construction company that redeveloped its historic Putnam School in East Cambridge are in a high-stakes legal battle, with each side saying the other is responsible for more than a year’s delay in finishing the project. The authority says the contractor, B.C. Construction of North Reading, mismanaged the project and owes the authority almost $2 million in damages stemming from the delay. B.C. Construction has sued the authority for $1.4 million in unpaid bills and says it’s owed another $2 million in costs from the delay, faulting the authority, city departments involved with the project and Eversource for the holdups.
