WENTZVILLE, Mo. – Missouri leaders have approved plans for a new $650 million Mercy medical campus, including a 75-bed hospital, in Wentzville.

Initial plans call to build the hospital near the intersection of Interstate 70 and Interstate 64. Organizers hope to break ground on the facility in the upcoming months, though will announce a project timeline on a later date.

The hospital is expected to offer 75 inpatient medical and surgical beds, an emergency department with two trauma bays and 18 observation beds, and special services for cardiovascular care, cancer and orthopedics.

Mercy says it has hosted community roundtable discussions in St. Charles, Lincoln and Warren counties to learn about health care needs from nearby residents.

“More than a decade in the making, this visionary project will serve the community’s needs for generations to come,” said Steve Mackin, Mercy president and CEO, via a news release. “Securing the state’s certificate of need approval marks a pivotal milestone, ensuring that patients in the tri-county area will soon have access to care closer to home.”

“The hospital will not only meet the urgent health care needs of our rapidly growing population but also create hundreds of jobs, fostering economic development. Mercy’s new hospital aligns perfectly with our goal of establishing Wentzville as a regional destination and promoting economic vitality,” said Wentzville Mayor Nick Guccione.

“Once constructed, this new hospital campus will address critical health care needs for our growing population in St. Charles County by ensuring our neighbors can access high-quality medical care closer to home,” said St. Charles County Executive Steve Ehlmann.

The Missouri Facilities Review Committee formally approved plans for the hospital on Monday. The facility would be the state’s first new, acute care hospital campus built since 2015 when Mercy opened its hospital in Joplin following the historic 2011 tornado.

Mercy is working with Cannon Design for architecture and design, and the company plans to use 100% localized union labor, according to the news release.
