Witness describes fiery Black Horse Pike crash that killed 2 people, injured 7
EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — When Chris Wilson came up to a car on fire from a four-car accident on the Black Horse Pike Friday night, he knew he had to help. Wilson, 46, of Vineland was headed to Rainbow Sushi in Ventnor with a friend when he noticed a silver Nissan Sentra about 70 yards away from his car. Two people were killed and seven others injured in the accident, police said.
Trenton Announces City Wide Cleanup through August
Starting in August, the city of Trenton will initiate its City Wide Cleanup. The Cleanup will be done by ward on Saturdays; starting with the South Ward on Aug. 3, the North Ward on Aug. 10, the East Ward on Aug. 17, and the West Ward on Aug. 24. Removal will consist of yard waste and furniture. Please DO NOT leave construction debris, home renovation debris, chemicals, televisions, electronic devices, or unbundled wood/branches over 4ft long. Residents should place items on the curb by 7:00 a.m.
Teen Birth Rates Decrease in Berks with Efforts of Prevention Initiative
Berks Teens announced that the latest data from the Pennsylvania Department of Health shows a decrease in teen birth rates for Berks County and the City of Reading. After a slight uptick in last year’s data, Berks Teens was encouraged by the improvement and their part in the effort. The numbers indicate that Berks County’s birth rate is, for the first time, better than that of the U.S. data overall, with 13.2 births per 1,000 in 2022. (see graph below.)

In the summer heat, cars traveling on the county’s dirt roads cast plumes of dust in their wake. Winter’s chill can cause a hazardous film of ice to spawn on paved roads. To protect motorists from both slippery ice and vision-impairing dust, communities across Pennsylvania coat these roads with large, cheap volumes of de-icing and dust-suppressing fluids. In Lawson’s case, her township had been using oil and gas wastewater as a dust suppressant, believing the material was effective.
