Local law enforcement to wait on you for a special cause

HARLINGEN, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — The Weslaco Police Department on Thursday will participate in the Law Enforcement Torch Run Tip-A-Cop for Special Olympics Texas.

The Texas Law Enforcement Torch Run police officers will be working hard to serve the public and collect donations for Special Olympics Texas. It is a year-round movement that provides sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

“Our role in this is to be celebrity waiters if you will, and so we’ll be getting refills, we’ll be bussing tables, we’ll be chatting with customers,” said Weslaco Police Chief Joel Rivera. “I think it’s a cool event where you can go out to support your community, meet your first responders, and your police officers out there, and then leave a hefty tip and all proceeds go towards the Special Olympics. So it’s a worthy cause and we’re looking forward to the event”

Mark your calendars for Thursday, July 25 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Texas Roadhouse at 626 E. Interstate Highway 2 in Weslaco.
