Its service will provide a public convenience and necessity, according to the 507-page decision from the Iowa Utilities Board granting process approval for Summit Carbon Solutions. As big days go, July 4th is one of the big dogs. It's America's birthday. July 4th is not just a big day for America. It's also part of Iowa history. We learned from Iowa PBS that early in its journey, the U.S. Congress set up a roadmap for western lands to become states, remembering how the American colonists weren't exactly fans of British rule (cue the Revolutionary fireworks). One of their star acts was the Northwest Ordinance of 1787. It gave a how-to guide for places like Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, and Wisconsin to join the statehood club.
GTSB Reminds Drivers No One is a Good Drunk Driver this July 4th Weekend
(Iowa) – As Iowans commemorate Independence Day, the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB) has one critical message, “No One’s a Good DRUNK Driver.” In 2022, a person lost their life every 39 minutes in alcohol-related crashes on U.S. roads. From July 3 to July 7, law enforcement statewide will heighten vigilance against drunk driving on our roads.
Hanson Nature Center Grand Opening Scheduled
The Winnebago County Conservation Board and the Friends of Winnebago County Conservation. have scheduled a Grand Opening for the new Hanson Nature Center! It will be held on Saturday, July 13th, from 11:00 AM until 4:00 PM at the Center, located at 41600 Highway 69, Leland, Iowa. The event will also serve as a retirement party for Winnebago County Conservation Board Director Robert Schwartz who will be retiring on July 31st.
Resident of Klemme places high in venture school competition
Caleb Renner of Klemme took home 3rd place at the 2024 University of Iowa’s Venture School Launch Day held last month. 10 teams from across the state of Iowa competed in the event which was held at EntreFEST, a two-day entrepreneurial conference in Cedar Rapids. A total of 37-thousand dollars in prize money was awarded.
Business Owner Tim Heisterkamp to Move Company to Corner Building in Downtown Jefferson
The final corner building on the downtown square in Jefferson is going to house a new business. Tim Heisterkamp is the owner of Journey Financial and has been operating in an over 500 square foot space at Home State Bank since 1998. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the business has since grown to three additional employees and he recently purchased the former Homestead Coffee and Bakery building at the corner of East Lincoln Way and South Chestnut Street. He explains that the bigger building not only allows employees to have nicer offices and a conference room, but he feels it gives him the space for one important aspect.

Hospers Man Taken To Hospital After Hull Accident
Hull, Iowa– A Hospers man was taken to the hospital after an accident in Hull on Tuesday, July 2, 2024. The Iowa State Patrol reports that at about 8:15 a.m., 19-year-old Allan Perez of Hospers was driving a 2024 Honda eastbound on Highway 18, just west of Okey Street in Hull. They tell us that 23-year-old Jordan Jansma of Hull was westbound on 18 in a 2022 Ram pickup. The trooper does note that there was “fog, smoke, or smog” in the area at the time of the accident.
