ARL holds a pet adoption special, asks for hot dogs, canned pumpkin, whipped cream and more as shelters remain crowded
Last week, the Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) asked for the public’s help because of a “severe space challenge” caused by a surge in dogs and cats arriving at its shelters. Over the weekend, it offered a special discount rate on adoptions of all dogs and cats six months or older, and 135 pets were adopted. Unfortunately, the space problem still exists, because while those adoptions were happening, 132 more pets arrived at ARL.
Nation's Largest Outdoor Farm Show Next Month
According to their website, the Farm Progress Show is the nation's largest outdoor farm event annually, hosting over 600 exhibitors from around the world. This year, the annual Farm Progress Show will be held August 27 - 29th in Boone, Iowa. National Events Director, Matt Youngman says the event attracts around 160,000 attendees each year, connecting farmers, ranchers and businesses.

Memorial Golf Tournament Happening Sunday in Perry
A traditional golf tournament will be happening on Sunday in the City of Perry. The 11th Annual Memorial Golf Tournament is taking place at the Perry Golf & Country Club on Sunday, with a tee time of 7:30am. According to the country club, golfers are free to tee off anytime after 7:30am and the event is open to anyone interested. The tournament features the Championship Flight that will play 27 holes, with the Senior Division, Super Senior Division, and all other flights to play 18 holes.
