Kitts Selected to First 18U Boys Team South Dakota
For the first time, Team South Dakota will field a team in the 18U Boys division. The Oahe Capitals will have representation on the first ever team with Keegan Kitts. Kitts will enter his senior year this fall as he finished with 11 points during the regular season in his junior campaign for the Caps. Kitts scored six goals and had five assists playing in all 22 games for Oahe. He had a goal and an assist in the state tournament which included the game winning overtime goal in the third place game for the Caps.

Madison 14U VFW takes 2nd at State
The Madison 14U VFW baseball teams season came to an end on Sunday, with a runner up finish in the Class A State VFW Tournament. Madison opened the tournament on Friday with a 12-2 win over Milbank .Henry Veenhof allowed just 2 unearned runs on 4 hits while striking out 13 batters in the opening win for Madison. Payton Wold had 2 hits and scored twice, while Oakley Mees drove in 3 runs.
Street assessments in Pierre begin this week
All paved streets in Pierre will get a health assessment this week. City officials said it will help the community prioritize street projects for the next few years. The City of Pierre hired StreetScan, a Massachusetts-based contractor, to scan the streets with vehicle-mounted technology that senses potholes, bumps, cracks and overall conditions.
Night Out event makes return to Volga
The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office wants to say thank you to county residents on Aug. 6 from 5 to 8 p.m. during their National Night Out celebration in Volga. “We want to give back to the community,” Deputy Sheriff Jeremy Kriese said. “They are so supportive of us through the whole year, so this is kind of our way of giving back and saying thanks for all your support through the year. And we want everybody just to come down and have a good time, enjoy one another, and get to meet us on a one-on-one basis, too — and in a positive environment.”

Motorcyclist suffers fatal injuries in Lincoln County crash
LENNOX, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - A 60-year-old man riding a motorcycle suffered fatal injuries after colliding with a pickup truck near Lennox on Tuesday.
