Two cited for bootlegging in Mission, SD
MISSION, S.D. - Two people have been cited for bootlegging in Mission, South Dakota. According to Rosebud Sioux Tribe Law Enforcement Services, authorities executed a search warrant at a home on the north side of Mission. Inside they found more than 200 bottles of vodka, nearly $500 in small denomination bills, $500 in coins and two guns.
Watertown Man Enters Plea Agreement for Rape
WATERTOWN, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) On July 17, 2024, 63-year-old James Barrett Kaska, a convicted sex offender, pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree rape. The plea agreement was presented in the Circuit Court of Codington County, SD, with Assistant Attorney General Kelly Marnette representing the state and Manuel de Castro representing the defendant.

Strong storm leaves behind heavy damage in Winner
A thunderstorm with strong straight line winds tore through southern South Dakota late Monday into Tuesday morning leaving behind widespread damages. The community of Winner was particularly hard hit. The storm caused a power outage in the town Monday night, which affected data collection for the National Weather Service. Wind speeds recorded near Winner put gusts over 80 miles per hour.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - The Gettysburg School district is cracking down on cell phone use going in to the 2024-25 school year. The district announced in a press release last Monday that all students K-12 will be in a device-free enviornment. Grades 6-12 will lock smartphones, smartwatches, and bluetooth earbuds in a YONDR pouch.

Pierre City Commission To Meet Tonight
PIERRE, (KCCR) — Once again, there is not much sitting in front of the Pierre City Commission tonight. Another light agenda will greet the Commission this evening. The Commission will get an update on the StreetScan project in special business before considering a brief consent calendar. The calendar includes minutes from the July 23rd meeting, a promotion in the Library and the claims. A public hearing is scheduled for 5:45 pm. That public hearing is for the transfer of an alcoholic beverage license for D-J’s Clark-SAG Incorporated to D-J’s Convenience Store/D-M-D Incorporated. Only two items of unfinished business make up the bulk of the agenda. Commissioners will consider a street closure request for Crazy Days on August 3rd and declaring a sweeper as surplus for placement on the Purple Wave auction service. Commissioners will close out the meeting by presenting any dialogue they may have. The Pierre City Commission meets tonight at the Pierre Municipal Building at 5:30 pm. The meeting is open to the community.
