Unrestricted Category State Bluegill Record Broken
CLEAR LAKEL, S.D. (MITCHELLNOW) Jason Deroy, of Clear Lake, SD, was underwater spearing when he set a new bluegill record on Pickerel Lake in northeastern South Dakota on July 6. This fish breaks the “unrestricted” bluegill record, meaning it was taken by any legal method other than hook and line. The image of the fish can be found on GFP’s Facebook page.

Village Creek Days brings beach fun to Chester
The third year of Village Creek Days brought live music, a drum line and a parade back to Chester for a fun-filled three-day event. This year, which had the Some Beach theme, began with a golf tournament, supper and music on July 26. Saturday started off with a parade, followed by a craft and vendor fair for the adults with a dunk tank and inflatables for the kids. Competitions like a bean bag tournament and a tug of war happened earlier in the afternoon, as did a kids' pedal pull. A live band performed in the evening, which ended with fireworks. Sunday kicked off with a fireman's breakfast and car show, with church at the United Methodist Church afterward. A beach volleyball competition brought more beach spirit, with bingo, a raffle drawing and food to wrap up the event.
