DeJuana Thompson steps down as Birmingham Civil Rights Institute president
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBMA) — The Birmingham Civil Rights Institute (BCRI) announced Wednesday that BCRI president and CEO, DeJuana Thompson will step down from the position. BCRI said Thompson will transition from her post in order to increase her focus on voting rights activities and community organizing in advance of the national political elections this fall.

Funeral plans have been announced for three family members killed in a Birmingham mass shooting at an adult birthday, including a woman and her grandson. A joint service will be held at Boutwell Auditorium Saturday for Angela Weatherspoon, 56, Markeisha Gettings, 42, and Lerandus Anderson, 24. Weatherspoon was Anderson’s grandmother.
