Miranda Qualifies for 124th U.S. Women’s Amateur
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – Rising University of Iowa senior Paula Miranda fired a three-under par 67 on Thursday during a qualifying event at the Franklin Bridge Golf Club to finish as the individual runner-up to earn a spot in the 2024 U.S. Women’s Amateur for the first time in her career. The Puebla, Mexico, native was one of four players in the field to finish in the red and one of seven at or below par. Bettendorf motorcyclist seriously injured in Scott County crash
A Bettendorf motorcyclist who has not been identified was injured Thursday night in Scott County, according to a news release from the Scott County Sheriff’s Office. About 7:30 p.m., the Scott Emergency Communication Center received a call of a motorcycle accident at the intersection of 115th Avenue and New Liberty Road. The Scott County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and an investigation was conducted.
New Cedar Rapids Michael’s Store to Open in August
Craft lovers rejoice! A new Michael's store will open in Cedar Rapids next month!. If you love crafting or your kids need materials for a school project, you head to Michaels. The location at 1470 Twixt Town Road in Marion has been open since 1993. Now, another Michael's location will be opening up on the southwest side of Cedar Rapids. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports that the new Michael's store will be located at 3500 Dalton Way SW. It will be in the same building as Ross Dress for Less in the Westdale Town Center.

With a global technology outage created by a faulty software update, most of Iowa City and the surrounding area reported minimal disruptions to service. Cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike issued an update to computers running Microsoft Windows early Friday morning. However, the update resulted in an international technology outage, according to the Associated Press. The outage has left airplanes grounded, surgeries delayed, and broadcast news off the air.
