Michigan is building the nation’s first smart highway
A three-mile stretch of Interstate 94 in Michigan will be converted into America’s first smart highway. Axios reports that the Alphabet-backed startup Cavnue has started constructing the smart highway as part of a new pilot project that could spur other construction projects across the country. Another project, a "Smart Freight Corridor" on State Highway 130 by Austin, Texas, is also being developed.
Man Arrested In Fatal Iosco County Crash
A 34-year-old Hale man was arrested in Iosco County Tuesday for impaired driving resulting in the death of another man. State Police troopers were called to the scene on M-65 near Slosser Trail around 11:30 P.M. after a collision between a 2013 Ford Taurus and a 2015 Fiat 500. Investigators say the man was driving the Taurus heading north and turned directly into the path of the Fiat, driven by a 42-year-old Hale man. That man was critically injured and died later at a hospital. A 22-year-old Hale woman, who was the victim’s passenger, suffered minor injuries, as did the at fault driver.

Corrections officers union asks Gov. Whitmer to deploy National Guard due to staffing shortages in Michigan prisons
(CBS DETROIT) - A union that represents Michigan corrections officers asked Gov. Gretchen Whitmer Wednesday to deploy the National Guard to help understaffed prisons. Byron Osborn, the president of the Michigan Corrections Organization - SEIU Local 526M, said in a letter to Whitmer that she needs to "take working conditions that have persisted and worsened" throughout her time as governor.The letter says that corrections officers have to work mandatory 16-hour overtime shifts per week, and have to run prison operations with "far less" than the number of officers required. Law firm: Michigan's 'most dangerous' intersections are mostly in metro Detroit
Michigan Auto Law in Farmington Hills compiles an annual list of the most dangerous intersections in the state based upon findings from Michigan State Police official data. The law firm says Eleven Mile Road/I-696 at Van Dyke Avenue is the most dangerous intersection in Michigan, with 218 crashes and 52 injuries. Crashes increased 69.9% over the last five years, from 129 in 2019 to 218 in 2023.
