Dogs walk Rockford University’s campus during Dog Days of Summer
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - Rockford University holds its second annual Dog Days of Summer event to welcome back Alumni and enjoy an early morning stroll. On Saturday, an estimated 40 dogs and their owners visited the Nelson Alumni Center, 5050 E. State Street, to enjoy the weekend weather and stay active. Event guests could pick up trail maps, grab goodies from that The Canine Crunchery and learn about the non-profit Canine Companions.

Village of Coal City Receives $2.6 Million Grant To Replace 533 Lead Service Lines
Several lead service lines will be replaced in the Village of Coal City as they received a $2.6 million grant from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. The Illinois EPA announced on Friday that $43 million in funding is being provided to 17 individual communities to replace lead service lines during the last quarter of State Fiscal Year 2024.

Man Sentenced on Drug Possession Charge in Grundy Co.
A 50-year-old Montgomery man was recently sentenced in a Grundy County court case. Michael Najar pled guilty to the unlawful possession of a controlled substance, a class four felony and was sentenced to two years of section 410 probation. Najar was arrested by the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office in the 4200 block of Route 47 in January of 2023.
