It's been a rough tornado season and a new Illinois law is taking aim at that. We can all agree it's been a messy summer. In the Chicago area alone last week, there were 33 tornadoes, compared to their usual 5 or 6 per year. With the derecho that moved through last week, 5 tornadoes rolled through the QCA. In Iowa, May was ridiculous. We average 11 tornadoes in May. But this year, we had over 80 tornadoes in May alone.

Freeport police investigate after home hit by gunfire
FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) - The Freeport Police Department asks for information as they investigate a shots fired report late Thursday. Just before 10:30 p.m. on July 25, Freeport officers received a Sound Thinking alert in the 500 block of S. Pine Avenue. Officers on scene say they found evidence of a firearm being discharged in the street. According to the Freeport Police Department, a home in the area was struck by gunfire.

ROCKFORD — First, Sophia Walsh lost her voice as she knew it. Then, she lost her love to perform. Theater had been a constant for Walsh since age 7, but at the start of her senior year in high school she underwent throat surgery to remove a cancerous tumor. She said the voice she had trained her entire life was not the same after surgery. She lost confidence, and after high school she retreated to behind-the-scenes work.
