Police Respond to Bomb Threat from Vehicle in Downtown Fredonia
A bomb threat caused a portion of East Main Street in downtown Fredonia to shut down for approximately two hours Thursday morning. Fredonia Police report that their officers received a 911 call at about 8:00 AM reporting that an occupant of a parked vehicle at Crosby's convenience store was using a shotgun to honk the vehicle's horn while sitting in the backseat. Officers approached a red SUV that had towels and blankets hung from inside the vehicle blocking their view inside. They removed an adult male and female who were occupying the backseat area; they both allegedly claimed that a bomb was inside. Several additional law enforcement agencies responded to the scene and helped evacuate the immediate area. The scene was rendered safe after a thorough search of the vehicle by bomb technicians from the Chautauqua and Cattaraugus County Sheriff's Office Hazardous Device Units and a Chautauqua County Sheriff's K-9 unit. Fredonia Police add that a pellet/BB gun was being used to honk the vehicle's horn, and that there was no shotgun located in the vehicle. Charges will follow pending an investigation involving the Chautauqua County District Attorney's Office.
