Man fatally shot while sleeping at Harmony House, bullet may have come from highway, authorities say
Authorities are investigating after a man was shot and killed while sleeping at a temporary housing facility for the homeless in Houston.The video above is from ABC13's 24/7 livestream.The victim, identified as 56-year-old Damon Spiller, was found dead at Harmony House on 702 Girarf St. at 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday.According to investigators, Spiller died from a gunshot wound.Houston police believe the gunshot was fired from the I-10 East Freeway ramp from the North I-45 lanes.Though Spiller was found Wednesday morning, authorities said the shooting could have happened on Saturday or Sunday.Harmony House released the following statement:We are deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic incident that claimed the life of one of our residents, who was fatally shot while sleeping in his bed. He was a hard-working individual, dedicated to improving and bettering his life. Everyone deserves to feel safe in their own bed at night; it's unfair that Damon had to lose his life this way. Harmony House sends their thoughts and prayers to his friends and family in this time of grief. Dickinson residents brace for more rainfall amid ongoing flooding in neighborhoods
The water here in Dickinson is slowly receding, but with more rain in the forecast, residents know the situation is far from over.The video above is from ABC13's 24/7 livestream.The fields around Hughes Elementary School flooded with Thursday night's heavy rains.The water is draining toward the bayou, flooding the streets of neighborhoods on Hughes Road.Although the homes have stayed dry, the water came close to going in.At the Cimarron Country mobile home park, Mitchell Atkins, the park's maintenance man who has lived there for nine years, says it got as bad as Hurricane Harvey in a lot less time."It took Harvey longer to flood this bad. [It rained] between 3 a.m. and 4:30, and it got this bad. My grandson woke up at 4:30 and said, 'Papa I'm scared.' I said, 'Baby, it's just a thunderstorm. It's OK.' I looked outside at 6 o'clock and said, 'Oh my God.'"With more rain on the way, Dickinson residents remain on edge.

HOUSTON, Texas — A suspected drunk driver was arrested following a police chase that began outside a local bar, according to authorities. On July 25, 2024, deputies from Constable Mark Herman's Office responded to Rowdy's bar on Holzwarth Road after receiving reports of an intoxicated driver leaving the premises. Deputies located the suspect vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to comply, leading to a pursuit.

Man leads deputies on foot pursuit, arrested on drug charges
HOUSTON, Texas — A man led deputies on a foot pursuit and was arrested on drug charges after a disturbance at an apartment complex, authorities said. On July 15, 2024, at approximately 3:07 PM, Deputy Cartlidge of the Harris County Precinct 8 Constable's Office responded to a disturbance at an apartment complex in the 4300 block of S Shaver, according to a press release from the department. The witness reported a male who appeared to be on drugs in a vacant apartment. As deputies approached, the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Antonio Proenza Perez, ran through the apartment and jumped out of an open window.
Galveston man arrested with large quantities of drugs and stolen handgun
GALVESTON, Texas — A Galveston man was arrested after authorities found him in possession of significant quantities of drugs and a stolen handgun. On July 25, 2024, the Galveston County Organized Crime Task Force and Galveston Police Department Special Operations Division executed a search warrant at an apartment in the 5000 block of Avenue K, according to the Galveston County Sheriff's Office. Prior to the search, detectives observed 39-year-old Darrington Joiner, of Galveston, Texas, leaving the residence, leading to a traffic stop where Joiner was found with 34 grams of crack cocaine.
