WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Wednesday night severe storms tore though the metro causing major damage to trees and powerlines in West Des Moines.

Brandon Lee, a resident of West Des Moines, said that the storm knocked over a tree that knocked out power for his neighborhood near Valley High School.

“It was kind of touch and go for a lot because this tree was actually being held up by a power line that was coming like all the way down to the ground. But I knew it was still hot because we still had power in like half of our house, which was weird. But yeah, so people were driving over and we were trying to get people to stop doing that,” Lee said.

Now residents will need to focus on cleaning up storm debris while power crews are out repairing damaged powerlines.
