State proposes new freshwater wetlands rules, now open for public comment
A complete overhaul of the state’s freshwater wetlands regulations is entering the home stretch with the release this month of proposed new rules for public comment. The new regulations are required by legislation enacted in 2022, the first major amendment to the state’s Freshwater Wetlands Act since its passage in 1975.

GreenUtica Garden Tour coming in August
UTICA — Local nonprofit GreenUtica announced a free community event, the GreenUtica Garden Tour, happening on Saturday, Aug. 10 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. To take the tour, which is a driving and walking tour of home gardens in neighborhoods throughout the city of Utica, people can register at the GreenUtica office at 1641 Genesee St. in Utica. Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners will also be at the GreenUtica office to answer gardening questions and to share tick awareness information. Tour stops will have a sign on the front lawn to let tour-goers know they can visit their gardens in the front, side, or back yards.
