Mosquitoes trapped in Onondaga County have tested positive for several different viruses. The county health department says West Nile, EEE, Highlands J viruses are the latest to be detected in Cicero and East Syracuse. Last week, test results confirmed the presence of Flanders and Jamestown Canyon Viruses. Health department medical director Dr. Jim Alexander says the risk to humans is quite low.

Syracuse University’s plans to build a massive new dormitory directly across from the historic rose garden is getting blowback. According to Syracuse.com, the building on Ostrom Avenue and University Place will house 703 beds. The dormitory, spanning 272-thousand square feet, is slated to be the largest student housing building in Syracuse, with construction anticipated to last 22 months.

ROME — The city of Rome is looking for volunteers to help clean up the parks and playgrounds still hampered by tornado damage this Saturday, according to city officials. Several city parks remain closed due to damage and debris from the July 16 tornado, including Gryziec Field, Fort Stanwix Park and Triangle Park, among others.
