    Car crashes and catches fire, killing one

    WEST FARMINGTON, Ohio (WKBN) – Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Warren Post is investigating a traffic crash that resulted in one fatality.

    Crews responded to a car fire in Trumbull County on Sunday.

    It happened on Ensign Road west of Girdle Road in West Farmington around 3 a.m.

    According to a news release, the was traveling eastbound on Ensign Road when it failed to negotiate a curve to the right, ran off the left side of the road, struck a stump, struck a tree and then caught fire. There were four occupants in the vehicle.

    The driver was transported to the Trumbull Regional Medical Center and then to Akron Children’s Hospital in Akron for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Three of the occupants were transported to University Hospital Geauga Medical Center. There, one of them succumbed to their injuries. The other two occupants were transferred to Metro Health in Cleveland for treatment of potentially life-threatening injuries.

    The driver had been wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash. The other three occupants had not, according to OSHP.

    Speed and alcohol are believed to have been factors in the crash, OSHP reports.

    The crash remains under investigation.
