Despite summer heat wave, 20,000 music fans attend Under the Big Sky
Fans and water misters were as ubiquitous as cowboy hats as concertgoers did their best to beat the sweltering heat during the opening day of the Under the Big Sky music festival Friday.The annual festival, now in its fifth year, has consistently featured some of the biggest acts in country and folk music on its stages, as well as some local favorites in Northwest Montana. Around 20,000 people were once again expected to flood into the Flathead Valley, according to organizers, which is on par for the last four festivals. Schools receive third — and potentially final — round of federal funding for homeless students
A pandemic-era program that has pumped $2 million into Montana schools to support students experiencing homelessness is nearing its end date. From the start of the 2023-24 school year to its conclusion, the number of students experiencing homelessness in Kalispell’s public school system jumped from 293 to 365. Assistant Superintendent Sara Cole said the increase reflects a growing trend in her district, one driven primarily by the soaring cost of living in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Glacier Twins swept Bitterroot Bucs in an American Legion doubleheader action by scores of 5-3 and 4-3 on Tuesday, July 9. Massive Missoula area subdivision garners initial approval
A standalone community with its own farm and potentially hundreds of homes at the Wye west of Missoula was initially approved by county officials this week. The Missoula Consolidated Planning Board unanimously approved the Grass Valley Gardens subdivision on Tuesday, and the Missoula County Commissioners will consider the project on August 8. The subdivision includes the first four phases of a larger development and includes 445 residential units and seven commercial lots.

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On July 13, 2024, at approximately 3:35 PM, a Missoula Police Department officer located a suspected impaired driving vehicle that was reported to 911. He initiated his emergency lights and the vehicle yielded in the mall parking lot near Dillards. The officer approached the vehicle and observed two occupants inside. The female in the driver's seat would be positively identified by Montana Driver's License as 48-year-old Candice Hanks.
