    Former West Greene teacher pleads guilty to statutory rape

    GREENE COUNTY, Tenn. (WJHL) — A former West Greene teacher pleaded guilty to aggravated statutory rape in a Greene County court on Monday.

    Jacob Deal, a former teacher and coach at West Greene High School, pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated statutory rape, according to the district attorney’s office.

    The Greene County Sheriff’s Office previously reported Deal, who was 41 at the time, had a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student.

    Deal, of Rogersville, was originally charged with three counts of statutory rape by an authority figure and three counts of aggravated statutory rape.

    Deal is due back in court on Sept. 3 in Hamblen County for a sentencing hearing.
