Nighttime lane closures on northbound Route 222 starting Sunday
There will be nighttime lane closures on northbound Route 222 in Manheim, Warwick and West Earl Townships for 2 to 3 weeks beginning Sunday night. Contractors will be patching pavement between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. nightly, according to the state Department of Transportation. Monday night only, there will be short-term lane closures on southbound Route 222 for survey work.

Columbia’s police chief told borough officials Tuesday that fireworks did not cause the fire that tore through Tollbooth Antiques on Chestnut Street last week. Chief Jack Brommer said during a borough council meeting that the investigating state police fire marshal said the cause of the fire has not been determined, but fireworks have been ruled out.

Patrick F. Murren
Patrick F. Murren, age 84, of Brushtown, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2024, at SpiriTrust Lutheran – the Village at Utz Terrace in Hanover. Patrick was born in Hanover, Pa., on March 27, 1940, and was the son of the late Francis J. and Hilda R. (Wolfe) Murren. He resided at SpiriTrust Lutheran – the Village at Utz Terrace in Hanover with his brothers Philip and Mark and was lovingly cared for by his brother Michael and wife Kathleen. Patrick enjoyed farming and time spent with his family and was an avid Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of McSherrystown, McSherrystown Home Assoc., and S.A.V.E.S., and enjoyed attending baseball games on Sunday afternoons at the Brushtown Athletic Association. Patrick was also a longtime parishioner of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in McSherrystown.

Bridge repair will close westbound Route 283 in August
Westbound Route 283 in Mount Joy and Rapho townships will be closed Aug. 9 through 12 so crews can begin replacing a section of a bridge that was damaged last year. Starting at 8 p.m. on Aug. 9, the highway will be closed between the Cloverleaf Road exit in Mount Joy Township and the Mount Joy (Route 230) exit in Rapho Township.
