District 19 News: Basic education funding bill passes House
Hello, Northsiders! I’m eager to share with you some of the important work I’ve been doing in Harrisburg and back at home. I was proud to cast my affirmative vote for a basic education funding bill that would help get our public schools the dollars they need to assist students, teachers and staff, and I spoke in support of the bill prior to passage. The legislation is a result of the bipartisan Basic Education Funding Commission’s findings that Pennsylvania has not fulfilled its constitutional obligations when it comes to public education.

Kipona Festival fireworks show canceled due to safety concerns, Harrisburg mayor says
HARRISBURG, Pa (WHP) — The City of Harrisburg's 108th annual Kipona Festival will take place this year without the fireworks and drone show. The city announced the decision Wednesday morning, citing "serious incidents" at this year's 4th of July fireworks shows and the need to make the show safer.

Tractor-trailer crash backing up I-81 traffic in Dauphin County
A Wednesday afternoon crash involving several tractor-trailers has created a backlog of traffic on Interstate 81 near Harrisburg, PennDOT said. The left southbound lane of I-81 is closed as of 2 p.m. at exit 66 to downtown Harrisburg/Front Street, according to PennDOT spokeswoman Fritzi Schreffler. Southbound traffic is slow-moving, she said, but getting by on the right lane.
