Amber Roadcap steps into new role at LGBT Center of Central PA
Amber Roadcap is the new Executive Director of the LGBT Center of Central Pennsylvania. Roadcap has earned a degree from Penn State Health, and has a background in mental health. She started her career in crisis intervention at Geisinger Holy Spirit Hospital. She’s also worked at Malvern Health where she helped to develop a LGBTQ+ based behavioral health program.
Harrisburg cancels Kipona fireworks show
HARRISBURG, Pa. — The City of Harrisburg is cancelling the fireworks and drone show at the upcoming Kipona Festival. Video above: Headlines from WGAL News 8. Harrisburg Mayor Wanda Williams released a statement saying the cancellation was due to "serious incidents during the fireworks displays at two of the last three July 4th shows."
Calder Cup hero Strome re-signs with Bears
The Hershey Bears have re-signed forward Matt Strome to a two-year American Hockey League contract. Strome set AHL career highs in 2023-24 with seven goals, 13 assists, 20 points and a plus-13 rating over 50 regular-season games with the Bears. He followed that up with two goals and three assists in 15 postseason games, scoring the Calder Cup-clinching goal in overtime of Game 6 of the Finals against Coachella Valley.
Intoxicated woman gets into fight while tubing with toddler in York County, police say
YORK COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — A Harrisburg woman has been charged with child endangerment following an incident at Yellow Breeches Creek. Shauna Chambers, 33, was arrested after police responded to the 500 block of Trimmer Drive on July 6 for reports of an intoxicated woman with a toddler, according to Fairview Township Police.
Holsteins Top Youth Dairy Show at 2024 Lebanon Fair
LEBANON, Pa. — Two Holsteins, one Red and White and the other black and white, walked away with top honors at the Lebanon Area Fair’s youth dairy show. In front of a packed house at the David Brightbill Arena Tuesday night, the best of breed winners in both the junior supreme and supreme champion competitions were introduced to the audience by emcee Harry Bachman.
Workers provide maintenance for Shawnee Run
Workers from LandStudies, Inc. began maintenance on a stretch of Shawnee Run today. Two areas have experienced bank erosion due to deposited sediment from upstream areas exerting pressure on the newly stabilized banks. These areas of erosion needed to be addressed to maintain the pollution reduction credits associated with the project.
Cumberland County boyfriend stabs man he found in bed with his girlfriend: police
A Carlisle man tried to stab another man to death after finding him in bed with his girlfriend over the weekend, police said in court documents. Henry A. Gumby admitted to stabbing the man multiple times in the neck and face before officers arrived around 9:16 a.m. Saturday at Gumby’s apartment on the 400 block of North Hanover Street, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

The Hershey Bears announced the re-signing of Matthew Strome, the younger brother of Dylan Strome exactly one month after they captured their 13th Calder Cup. 47 people charged with felony public assistance fraud in June 2024 by Pennsylvania Inspector General
HARRISBURG, Pa. — In June of 2024, 47 people were charged with felony public assistance fraud, according to the Office of the State Inspector General (OSIG). The restitution owed to the Commonwealth in these cases reportedly totals $228,772. Additional cost savings will be realized because the defendants will be temporarily disqualified from receiving public benefits in the programs they allegedly defrauded, according to OSIG.
