WEST JEFFERSON — The Ashe County Democratic Party (ACDP) had a strong turnout of volunteers and visitors at its booth during the Christmas in July Festival in West Jefferson.

The festival was a big success for the community with sunny weather and a large crowd that enjoyed live Blue Grass and Country music, classic and ethnic foods, and homemade crafts. Approximately 100 people visited the ACDP booth to show their support, meet candidates, purchase T-shirts and other merchandise, and obtain information about the upcoming election.

Democratic candidates from Ashe, Avery, Wilkes and Wake counties joined together for a meet-n-greet with visitors and share their positions on a variety of topics important to voters. Many visitors were excited to meet state and federal office candidates such as NC Supreme Court Justice Allison Riggs, who is running for reelection; and Chuck Hubbard, running for US House of Representatives, District 5. Also dropping by the booth were Frank Hughes, candidate for NC Senate, District 47, and Ashe County’s own Ben Massey, who’s running for NC House, District 93. Local candidates for Ashe County Commissioner, Tanya Robinson and Nancy Beth Weaver also attended and shared their messages.

Many visitors expressed interest in attending future ACDP events, in addition to those held by the Democratic Women of Ashe (DWA). The ACDP holds its monthly meetings on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Ashe Arts Center, 303 School Ave., West Jefferson. See www.Ashecodems.com for more information.

This month’s meeting will feature a presentation by Frank Hughes, a public educator and NC Senate Candidate. All registered Democrats and progressively minded people are invited to attend. The DWA also holds monthly meetings. See www.Democraticwomenofashe.com for more information. The ACDP and the DWA wish to thank Christmas in July organizers for an inspiring and fun festival and encourage all progressively minded Ashe County residents to get in touch with the ACDP, get involved, and vote on Nov. 5.
