The Exponent spoke with incoming Purdue freshman Daniel Jacobsen about his basketball life before and since his recruiting star rose after the 2023 Peach Jam tournament.

Jacobsen left his home in New Mexico at age 16 to play for more competitive high schools and leagues, graduating from Brewster Academy in New Hampshire this year. He chose Purdue over Wisconsin and others in the fall.

Jacobsen said he's 7-foot-3 and has honed his shooting skills since he was young. In his film, he's able to use more of his body in his jump shot than most bigs, giving him an accurate, quick-release stroke from long range. His favorite pro is Lauri Markkanen, a seven-footer who shot 42% from 3 at Arizona.

Purdue head coach Matt Painter compared Jacobsen to former Boiler Matt Haarms, Jacobsen said.
