In our June 29th edition, GoldandBlack.com’s Tom Dienhart breaks down what’s next in Purdue football recruiting, and Brian Neubert analyzes the impact of the Grizzlies’ ninth overall pick, Zach Edey.

More on Purdue All-American Edey’s pick

Zach Edey achieved his goal Wednesday night of being a first-round NBA Draft pick.

The two-time Player-of-the-Year from Purdue was picked ninth by the Memphis Grizzlies. He isthe Boilermakers’ second top-10 pick in three years.

In Memphis, Edey will join a core ready to win now after an injury-ravaged season. Edey will join star Ja Morant, emergent big man Jaren Jackson Jr. and three-point marksman Desmond Bane with the Grizzlies.

Edey watched the draft at Matt Painter’s home in West Lafayette along with coaches and teammates. Mason Gillis, now at Duke, returned to Purdue to attend the gathering, as did Lance Jones on his own big night.

(A sample of Thursday’s Boiling Over)

Let’s break down the uncommitted OVs who trekked to West Lafayette in June for official visits:

Receivers: Intrigue drips from in-state target JonAnthony Hall. Purdue is Hall’s favorite, but Mom and Dad supposedly are pushing Stanford for the Fishers product. Hall will announce his decision on Friday. Stanford appears to be the choice.

Don’t expect Purdue to pursue anymore wideouts for now.

Offensive linemen: Purdue is down to just one active target after Harrison Cluff committed to Baylor this week. His name: Kuol Kuol, who took OVs to Purdue and Boston College and just received an offer from Michigan State. Kuol Kuol is a 6-6 rising talent from Ohio.

The staff dropped Dramodd Odoms after an uneven OV.

Rush ends: With Jayden Woods committing to Penn State on Wednesday, all eyes are on Mariyon Dye, an Elkhart, Ind., product who is the No. 1 player in the state, according to On3. Purdue is pulling out all the stops. Ohio State looks like the favorite with Tennessee pushing, but Purdue’s proximity plays to its advantage. Ohio State will probably take 3-4 edge guys, while Tennessee has crazy NIL. But, again, Purdue is home for Dye, who had a great time when he was here last week.

Eli Jones has been committed to South Florida but is still listening to Purdue.

Getting Woods was gonna be difficult, but Purdue took its shot at the four-star Kansas City-area talent with KC-area assistants Joe Dineen and Kevin Kane.

Defensive linemen: A big area of need, as no position had more OVs in June: seven. Purdue received a big blow on Wednesday when Kyler Garcia committed to Indiana. He was thought to be the Boilermakers’ No. 1 d-line target.

Derry Norris, another very desired guy, remains in play. He may have his eyes on Miami (Fla.). Still, Purdue is in the fight.

Derrick Simmons also is a top priority, with Michigan State the team to beat for the Michigan native. He is a long, long shot.

Cincinnati’s Drayden Pavey is thought to be leaning toward Purdue over Wisconsin and Indiana. He’s a big body and would be a nice pickup.

Purdue has a shot at Caleb Smith. He just visited Washington. It’s Purdue vs. U Dub. Will a Birmingham, Ala., kid really go to Seattle? He picks his school on Friday afternoon.

Jayquan Stubbs committed to Minnesota since OV-ing at Purdue. He was not a top priority. And neither is Tony Carter. Still, Carter remains in play.

Inside linebackers: There is just one, in Ohio’s Grant Beerman, who is a rangy player. He was back on campus last week. It’s Purdue, Cincinnati, Michigan State and West Virginia.

As mentioned above, Purdue offered Fort Wayne’s Sam Steward last week. He’s expected to commit, a speedy sleeper who’s hungry.

Defensive backs: Lots of drama. Mason Alexander was thought to be committed to Purdue at one time but pledged to Pitt on Wednesday. Just a bizarre deal. That’s all we have to say on that.

Like Alexander, Dawayne Galloway was believed to be a Boilermaker pledge. But, word is he committed to Kentucky last weekend. Will that stick?

That leaves Cincinnati’s Seaonte Stewart. But he may land at Indiana, as Purdue is thought to have backed off him after it felt it had Alexander and Galloway. Does Purdue still have a shot?
