Purdue University places No. 1 for most-recognized U.S. public university

Purdue University has been ranked No. 1 among U.S. public universities and No. 9 globally for most-recognized university in the 2024-25 Global University Visibility (GUV) rankings, announced by American Caldwell on July 16.

This ranking places Purdue ahead of notable institutions like the University of Michigan, UC Berkeley, Yale University and the University of Toronto.

Additionally, Purdue is the No. 2 public university worldwide according to the ranking, only behind Universidade de São Paulo, and is the highest-ranked university in the Big Ten and Indiana.

According to a Purdue press release, this year’s GUV rankings considered six key factors: the frequency and quality of universities’ news mentions, their online footprint, their social media following, the level of public interest, the number of web citations and the number of website visitors.

Purdue performed exceptionally on its website, generating nearly 16 million visits to Purdue.edu. Purdue has the seventh-highest number of website visitors of any university worldwide.

“This recognition is really about those Boilermakers,” Purdue president Mung Chiang. “Our marketing and communications team is merely amplifying their tireless efforts in making Purdue the most consequential public university by sharing those stories with audiences everywhere.”
