The West Linn boys wrestling team continued a productive winter on Wednesday night, Jan. 31, dominating a three-way invitational at Lakeridge High School.

The Lions, led by a number of 6A title-contending wrestlers, outscored Lake Oswego 63-18 and Lakeridge 55-22, building momentum off a solid performance at the 2024 Reser’s Tournament of Champions last week.

Against the Lakers, West Linn tallied six forfeit victories, four falls and one decision victory, while the Lakers managed just one fall and two forfeit wins.

In the 175-pound weight class, the Lions’ Jansen Kouame bested Lake Oswego’s Tripton Ciupryk in the most tightly contested match between the two schools. Kouame won on a 12-5 decision, while the rest of West Linn’s scoring came from either falls or forfeits.

At 113 pounds, the Lions’ Johnny Novelo pinned the Lakers’ Dylan Hakin in 2:53, while at 138 pounds, Oscar Doces earned six more points for West Linn, pinning Anthony Ruggiero in 1:38.

At 150 pounds, the Lions’ Koen Aguirre recorded an eye-catching 15-second pin over Lake Oswego’s Charlie Hansen, and at 157 pounds, Mason Carnrite pinned Ahmed Toney in 46 seconds for the Lions' final fall against the Lakers.

Romeo Daly, Colby Cook, Ryder Sprague, George Kovchegov, Lucas Gray and Ryder White each earned forfeit victories for West Linn as the Lions outscored the Lakers by a whopping 45 points.

Dylan Keyser was the lone Lake Oswego wrestler to walk away from a legitimate match with a win on Wednesday, defeating West Linn’s Delilah Leusch with a fall in 1:27.

Against Lakeridge, the Lions were similarly dominant, tallying two forfeit wins, six falls and two decision victories.

In the 132-pound weight class, West Linn’s Sprague topped the Pacers’ Nolan Opferman in the most tightly-contested match between the two schools, a 9-3 decision.

The Lions’ other decision victory came at 106 pounds from Daly, who bested the Pacers’ Alaina Gates with a 12-5 major decision win, earning four points for West Linn.

At 126 pounds, the Lions’ Cook pinned Ta Ohr in 3:10, while at 138 pounds, Doces earned six more points for West Linn, pinning Ethan Pinilla in 1:58.

At 144 pounds, Kovchegov picked up a 2:28 fall over Lakeridge’s Korbin Taft, and at 150 pounds, Aguirre topped Jacob Park in just 57 seconds.

Gray added another fall for the Lions at 165 pounds, pinning the Pacers’ Alex Sly right at the three-minute mark, while Ryder White pinned Colby Owen in 2:46 at 190 pounds.

Novelo and Carnrite earned forfeit victories as the Lions picked up their second win of the event, a 33-point triumph over Lakeridge.

Curran Fogarty was the lone Pacer to walk away from a legitimate match with a victory on Wednesday, topping Leusch with a 12-3 major decision.

The Lions are back in action on Thursday as they host Oregon City in a Three Rivers League bout at 7 p.m.
