Growing up in Puerto Rico, football became my passion at a young age. In 2017, when Hurricane Maria struck the island, my life changed forever. My school shut down for three months, and I knew there were no recruiting opportunities in Puerto Rico. So, I left everything behind at the age of 16 and moved to Miami. Now, going into my sixth year with Florida Atlantic football and a growing program, change has been both challenging and rewarding as I continue to learn how to adapt to new situations and evolve as a player.

Review: Mountains Paints a Sensitive and Delicate Portrait of a Community Under Siege
The forces behind the gentrification of Miami’s Little Haiti community in Monica Sorelle’s feature debut Mountains are invisible and unstoppable. They go beyond the For Sale signs with the headshot of a gorgeous real estate agent, and the anonymous phone calls the community’s residents receive goading them into selling their homes. Very little mention is made of the corporations behind this urban upheaval. We know they are there, because we have witnessed in our own cities the erasure that takes place when these communities are pushed out of their enclaves to be replaced by ritzy HGTV-like houses and condos with their open room concepts. To the residents of these communities, “demo day” has a darker darker connotation than Chip Gaines’ childish exaltation.

Miami loses its civilian police oversight, DeSantis' bid to change state parks and Cuba's private sector
On the South Florida Roundup, we discussed the end of Miami’s police Civilian Investigative Panel – which a new state law has made illegal. We looked at what might replace it and why Miamians hoped to keep it. We also asked why Florida Governor Ron DeSantis suddenly ditched plans to turn state parks into what critics called commercial resorts. And, we examined Cuba’s hard new obstacles for private entrepreneurs – and a supposed exodus of communist regime officials to Florida.
