Mince is the college’s fourth president, succeeding James Ball, who retired July 5. Patrick F. Murren, age 84, of Brushtown, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2024, at SpiriTrust Lutheran – the Village at Utz Terrace in Hanover. Patrick was born in Hanover, Pa., on March 27, 1940, and was the son of the late Francis J. and Hilda R. (Wolfe) Murren. He resided at SpiriTrust Lutheran – the Village at Utz Terrace in Hanover with his brothers Philip and Mark and was lovingly cared for by his brother Michael and wife Kathleen. Patrick enjoyed farming and time spent with his family and was an avid Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of McSherrystown, McSherrystown Home Assoc., and S.A.V.E.S., and enjoyed attending baseball games on Sunday afternoons at the Brushtown Athletic Association. Patrick was also a longtime parishioner of Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in McSherrystown.
Train cars derail, block road in East Manchester Township
A train derailment has blocked a railroad crossing in East Manchester Township, according to York County 911. A small number of train cars derailed at the crossing on Wago Road, near Locust and Gut roads, around 5:25 p.m. Thursday, according to a dispatcher. All cars remained upright, and nothing is leaking.
Mayor Sorace won’t seek a third term

Anna “Ann” Louise (Davis) Deckert, 80, of Gettysburg passed away on July 20, 2024, at Gettysburg Hospital after a long illness. Born on Oct. 26, 1943, in Gettysburg, she was the second child of Betty Kroushour Leonard and Lester Davis. She was the wife of James H. Deckert of Gettysburg and mother of two sons, Bradley Deckert and Chad Deckert.
