Donald B. Weidman, age 85, of Mount Joy, entered into eternal rest on Sunday July 21, 2024, at Harrisburg Hospital after a brief illness. Many people knew him by his nickname Sam. He was born on March 7, 1939, to the late Harlan and Susan Weidman. He was the youngest of 10 siblings. He was the loving husband of Dorothy N. Mylin Weidman, whom he married October 8, 1960. They shared 63 years of marriage together.

The General Store in the Hanover Village (at the Junction of county roads C-65 and M27) is receiving a “facelift” in July. The Hanover Historical Society learned in the spring that the wooden supporting structure and siding on the east side had dry rot and needed to be replaced.

The Scarlet Willow, an antiques and vintage shop in Lancaster city, will be closing in early September. The last day for the 320 N. Cause of motorcycle crash that killed Mount Joy Township man is undetermined: police
Police have yet to say what caused the motorcycle crash that killed a Mount Joy Township man last week near the Lancaster-Lebanon county line. Matthew Ferruzza, 28, of the 400 block of Rockwood Drive, died early July 19 after his motorcycle collided with an SUV, according to the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office. Ferruzza died of multiple traumatic injuries, and the coroner ruled his death accidental.

Lancaster Mayor Danene Sorace will not run for a third term after seven years in office. Sorace, a Democrat, announced her decision through a video on social media Thursday, saying it’s time for a new leader to step up to the plate. The mayor’s four-year term ends in January 2026. Sorace was elected to the city’s executive role in 2017 after serving on City Council for four years and is the second woman in Lancaster history to serve as mayor.

Stephen Earl Wilcoxson, 74, died June 27 at York Hospital after a long series of illnesses. Born June 17, 1950, in Fredericksburg, Va., Steve was the son of the late Earl and Harriet Wilcoxson. He graduated from Great Mills High School, where he played football and was bitten by the theater bug. He enlisted in the Navy and served in Vietnam.
Country-themed pub in Hampstead closes after three years in business
C&R Pub Hampstead has closed its doors at the Roberts Field Shopping Center on Hanover Pike, according to a statement posted on social media. The pub, whose acronym once stood for “Cowboys & Rednecks,” originally opened in Baltimore’s Federal Hill, then moved to Towson in 2019. The Hampstead location opened in 2021.

Chad Snyder appointed to state board of funeral directors
As a third-generation funeral director, Chad Snyder has a unique perspective of the profession. In 1947, Chad's grandfather, Charles F. Snyder, opened a funeral home in downtown Lancaster, and the business grew to offer locations in Millersville, Willow Street, Lititz and other parts of the county. Chad watched his father, Chip Snyder, run the business after Charles retired, and Chad became the director in 2018. Chad was appointed to the Pennsylvania State Board of Directors earlier this year, and he said he plans to use his experience to bridge the gap between funeral directors and state legislators to benefit Lancaster and communities throughout the state.

Red Lion woman charged in connection to death of 18-year-old man found in her home
RED LION, Pa. — A York County woman has been charged in connection to the fatal overdose of a man found in her home earlier this year, State Police said Tuesday. Kianna Brackett, 39, of Red Lion, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, possession with intent to distribute, endangering the welfare of children, tampering with evidence, criminal use of a communication facility and reckless endangerment following an investigation of the death of 18-year-old Tyler Moser, whose body was found in a bedroom at Brackett's home on May 17, according to State Police.
