NEW PHILADELPHIA ‒ Due to significant drought conditions in much of Ohio and the Tuscarawas Valley, the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District is curtailing water sales from Atwood Lake to Encino Energy for oil and gas well operations. State Highway Patrol on the lookout for drunken, impaired drivers
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is urging drivers to make safe choices over the Labor Day weekend. As part of statewide holiday enforcement efforts, troopers will be focusing on getting drunken and drugged drivers off the road. “Everyone traveling Ohio’s roads plays a part in keeping them safe this Labor Day,” said Col. Charles A. Jones, patrol superintendent. “By planning ahead and designating a sober driver, you contribute to making our roadways secure for all.” During the 2023 Labor Day holiday weekend, 24 people were killed in 23 crashes. Of those, 17 fatalities involved alcohol or drugs. In 11 of the fatalities where safety belts were available, 10 people were unbelted.
