Seafood chain abruptly closed ‘unprofitable’ Ohio location, plans 22 other closures this week
We’re sorry to report the bad news – there’s one less place in Ohio for those famous cheddar bay biscuits, and 22 less nationally. Ohio's top elections official suggests eliminating ballot drop boxes
COLUMBUS — Ohio’s top elections official has asked Republican legislative leaders to consider banning the use of drop boxes altogether for returning absentee ballots after a federal court blocked a law limiting who may assist the disabled in voting. Secretary of State Frank LaRose also wants to require proof of U.S. citizenship on state-issued voter registration forms and require registered voters to cast provisional ballots when information in the Bureau of Motor Vehicles doesn’t match that on the registration rolls. READ MR. LAROSE’S LETTER TO SENATE PRESIDENT, HOUSE SPEAKER Current law allows for a single drop box for returning absentee ballots outside county boards of election. Mr. LaRose suggested getting rid of that box is one answer to a July judge’s ruling in a case brought by the League of Women Voters of Ohio and a disabled voter.

“I believe in what we do. I really do! I believe it’s an opportunity to make a huge impact on kids. Schools are the hub of the community.”. That was Katherine Weaver talking, a third-generation educator. Her grandfather taught high school physics and math, and her mother taught education at a university, where Mrs. Weaver worked for her mom in the Dean’s office. She graduated from Centerville High School and went to the University of Dayton (UD) as a Business Major but soon changed to Education. At UD, she met her husband-to-be, and after graduating (and getting married), she moved on to Ohio State to study music. But she soon decided that education was where she really wanted to be, in the classroom with kids. Mrs. Weaver said, “I believe in what we do in public K-through-12 education. I love all the things about it. I’m happy that this is my path.”

Second Dayton woman nabbed for $2,000 theft at sporting goods store in Butler County
BUTLER COUNTY, Ohio (WKEF) --A second Dayton woman was arrested in connection to thefts at a sporting goods store back on Aug. 21. Sheriff Richard K. Jones says Jhon’Nae Deshelle Smith, 26, of Dayton was taken into custody with the help of Dayton Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force on Thursday, Aug. 29. Smith was located during a traffic stop initiated by the marshals fugitive task force just off of Lyndhurst Avenue in Dayton.
Mercer County man killed in a crash involving a golf car and a vehicle
MERCER COUNTY, OHIO (WLIO) - A Mercer County man driving a golf cart was killed when he was rear-ended on the road. Sheriff Jeff Grey says it happened just after 7:30 Thursday night on Philothea Road, just west of Township Line Road. Michael Hatcher, 69, of Fort Recovery, was driving a golf cart west when Caleb Wendel, 17 from Coldwater, did not see Hatcher ahead of him and struck the back of the golf cart. Hatcher was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The crash remains under investigation.
