WEST MONROE, La. (KTVE/KARD)– From July 26, 2024, to August 2, 2024, the West Monroe Police Department is planning Sobriety and Occupant Protection Checkpoints from 6:00 pm to midnight on a public roadway in the city limits of West Monroe.

According to officials, there will also be multiple occupant protection checkpoints throughout the week during the month of August. These checkpoints are funded through the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission. According to officials, these checkpoints aim to create a greater awareness of the importance of sober driving and the use of occupant protection devices per Louisiana law.

These checkpoints are designed to minimize inconvenience while increasing contact with the motoring public. According to officials, the goal is to reduce serious bodily injuries and fatalities from crashes. A child safety seat technician will also be available at the Friday checkpoints to check the proper installation of child seats for those who would like them checked. A certified technician will also be at the West Monroe Police Department, Monday through Friday from 9 AM until 3 PM.
