Mi Salud Wellness Center, located at 200 E Wyoming Avenue, hosted a family health and wellness event on May 22nd, from 2 pm-5 pm, followed by their regular food distribution. Esperanza’s Housing and Economic Development division participated in the event, helping to host a pop-up clinic alongside Miriam Medical Clinics; the clinic provided COVID-19 vaccines, health communication materials, free COVID-19 testing kits, and health screenings for blood pressure and glucose. 7-month-old baby boy shot while outside with parents in Holmesburg, Philly police say
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A 7-month-old baby boy was shot while sitting on the front lawn with his mother and father in Philadelphia's Holmesburg section on Thursday, police said. The shooting happened on the 4000 block of Meridian Street just before 6 p.m., according to police. The 7-month-old was shot in his thigh and taken to Nazareth Hospital by a neighbor, police said. He was then transferred to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital and placed in stable condition. Police found two spent shell casings at the scene and believe the shots were fired from a semi-automatic weapon. They believe the baby was hit by stray gunfire. The mother and father of the baby weren't hit by the shots from the semi-automatic weapon. Police said surveillance video captured a man or woman with dreadlocks wearing a dark T-shirt and light blue jeans who fired the shots. The shooter was last seen running toward a driveway on the 4000 block of Meridian Street, according to police. The motive for the shooting isn't known at this time.
Man wanted for firing shots at delivery driver taken into custody in Northeast Philly, police say
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A man who allegedly fired shots at a driver delivering for Amazon was taken into custody after he barricaded himself inside a home in Holmesburg, Philadelphia police said on Thursday. Police and SWAT set up a barricade outside the home on the 8300 block of Walker Street just after 2:15 p.m. and it lasted roughly two hours. There weren't any injuries reported, police said. It's unclear where the shots were fired at the delivery driver. This is a developing story. Stay with CBS News Philadelphia for updates.
Dr. Barbara Friedes, 30, Killed In Philly Crash
Barbara Ann Friedes, 30, was struck from behind by a 2018 Volkswagen on the 1800 block of Spruce Street around 7 p.m., Philadelphia police wrote in a release. The Volkswagen then hit three parked cars before coming to a rest, police continued. Friedes was taken to Jefferson University Hospital and pronounced dead, while the driver of the Volkswagen was taken to the same hospital with minor injuries, officials said.
