Firefighters Race to Combat Mount Kisco Blaze
MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. - Members of the Mount Kisco Volunteer Fire Department and other first responders were called to the scene of a three-alarm blaze at The Chase on Sunday, July 21. According to First Assistant Chief Josh Fine, the blaze started in a car around 1 p.m. in the Carlton Drive home’s garage and caused heavy smoke, water, and heat damage in other parts of the structure.CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR THE FREE TAPINTO.NET NEWSLETTER County fire officials closed their investigation after determining that the cause was not suspicious, he said. The home’s occupants were able to flee to safety. No firefighters were injured, Fine added. Among the units providing mutual aid were Yorktown Heights, Bedford Hills, Katonah, Pleasantville, Briarcliff, and Armonk. Due to the high heat and humidity that day, additional resources were needed to allow departments to rotate crews. Ride to End Cancer Cruises Through Somers
SOMERS, N.Y. - Anyone driving past Somers Middle School and Somers Intermediate School on Sunday, July 21, would believe Somers had been invaded. The field separating the schools was transformed into a mass of tents and a sea of cycles. Over 375 cyclists on the Empire State Ride to End Cancer concluded the first day of a seven-day, 500+ mile adventure from New York City to Niagara Falls that raises funds for cancer research. The riders, many of whom were cancer survivors and supported by an army of volunteers, began the day in Staten Island, ferried to Manhattan and wound their way to Somers. Firefighters in the Lower Hudson Valley Save Deer Stuck in Mud
Firefighters in the lower Hudson Valley recently worked together to help free a deer that had gotten stuck in the mud. Several attempts to pull the animal out had proven futile, as one firefighter told ABC that if you stepped into the muck it would be "down to your knee".
