GameStop turns some Upstate NY stores into ‘retro’ video game shops: See list of locations
Up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A, start. GameStop is turning some of its stores into “retro” video game shops, selling older consoles including earlier models of Nintendo, Sega, PlayStation and Xbox systems. The company said it will also sell older games from multiple franchises, including “Mario Kart,” “Grand Theft Auto,” “Halo” and “Pokémon.”

Peekskill, NY offers innovative nature preschool program
The City of Peekskill, New York still has a few spots available for Mother Nature's Preschool. This program focuses on outdoor, hands-on learning, imaginative and creative learning, and connecting children with nature. The program runs from September 9, 2024, to June 2025, following the Peekskill School Calendar, Monday through Thursday from 9 am to 12 noon. It is open to children ages 2.5 to 5 who are potty trained and will be held at Depew Park Preschool near the pool.

N.J. man charged with attempted murder after shooting investigation
A Passaic County man was charged with attempted murder and robbery in a shooting in Paterson last Thursday, Passaic County officials announced. Jioni Rosado, 34, of Paterson was arrested on Wednesday in Haledon and charged with first-degree attempted murder, robbery and unlawful possession of a weapon as well as other second-degree weapons offenses, the county prosecutor’s office announced.

Lightning Strike Causes Fire At Turtle Back Zoo, Officials Say
West Orange responders got a call from the Turtle Back Zoo saying its Sea Turtle Recovery Building had been struck by lightning around 9:45 p.m., a spokesperson for the town said. Firefighters and police officers responded and put out the blaze. Essex County Sherriff officers were on scene as well.

BOWLING GREEN — Justin Pegues and his Bowling Green State University football teammates had a pretty good feeling a big play was going to happen for the Falcons’ special teams. It only took one play in his first game with the Falcons for Pegues to run into the BGSU record books. The Falcons’ junior running back and transfer from Tennessee Tech took the opening kickoff a program-record 100 yards for a touchdown, and BGSU used that spark to start off strong and upend FCS opponent Fordham 41-17 on Thursday at Doyt Perry Stadium. “Honestly, I have been telling the team all week that if they take a chance and kick it to me, it’s going to the crib, and that’s just what happened because God, the man above, spoke it into existence,” Pegues said. “Coach had been talking all week about starting the game off with a big play, and somebody had to start it, and I was like ‘why not me?’”

Injured umpire Nick Mahrley sidelined through at least Sunday
NEW YORK (AP) — Umpire Nick Mahrley will miss his second straight series after sustaining a concussion. The 41-year-old was injured while working the plate during last Sunday’s game between Colorado and the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium. Mahrley was hit in the neck by Giancarlo Stanton’s shattered bat in the fifth inning. The barrel hit Mahrley on the left side of his mask, knocking it off.
