    Essex County Prosecutors Charge West Orange Teacher in Assault on Student

    WEST ORANGE, NJ -- Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II and West Orange Police Chief James P. Abbott have announced that authorities have charged a teacher in connection with an assault on an 11-year-old student at the Mt. Carmel Guild Academy on Valley Way in West Orange.  Jaron Spicer, age 32, of Bayonne, NJ has been charged with second degree Endangering the Welfare of a Child and Simple Assault, a disorderly person offense.

    The incident occurred on or about April 18, 2024. According to a press release, “A few days later, on April 22, the victim’s mother went to the West Orange Police Department and reported that her child had been assaulted by a teacher at the school.”

    The West Orange Police Department and detectives from the Essex County Prosecutor’s office investigated the incident, and prosecutor’s detectives arrested Spicer on July 16. He was in the Essex County Correctional Facility but was subsequently released from custody after appearing in Essex County Central Judicial Processing (CJP) court.

    Spicer was ordered to have no contact with the victim and must check in with the court during the pendency of this matter.

    The charges against this defendant are merely allegations. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
