It’s not too early to think about Thanksgiving.

And indeed, if you want to take part in one of the town’s most popular holiday traditions, you’ll need to.

That’s because registration is now open for the Turkey Trot, the Town of Palm Beach United Way’s 5K race on Turkey Day, which falls this year on Nov. 28.

This is the 16th year of the race, which has for years drawn hundreds of participants and become a regular part of the holiday for Palm Beach County families. The early morning festivities also include a Kids Drumstick Dash for children.

Last year's event drew about 1,500 participants to Bradley Park.

The race raises money for Thanksgiving meals for the county’s needy.

Every participant receives a T-shirt, finisher’s medal and a race goody bag. Top male and female finishers in the overall race, and in specific age categories, are awarded trophies.

Interested persons can register for the race, which sold out last year in September, at www.palmbeachunitedway.org/turkey-trot. There is a $40 fee, which rises to $50 in October and $100 in November.

Would-be participants can also register by calling 561-655-1919 or sending an email to Kristen Perrone, the United Way’s director of resource development, at kristenperrone@palmbeachunitedway.org.

Sponsorships in amounts ranging from $1,000 to $15,000 also are available, as are in-kind sponsorships.

Packets for the race can be picked up Tuesday, Nov. 26, and Wednesday, Nov. 27, at the Pumphouse Pouratorium, 1016 Clare Ave., No. 5A, in West Palm Beach, from 7:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. each day.
