Hurricane Beryl is a bit weaker on Wednesday, but is still a major Category 4 storm.

Later today, Beryl will move over Jamaica or pass just to the south.

"Either way, Jamaica is gonna see everything you would expect in a Category 4 hurricane," WPTV First Alert Weather meteorologist Steve Villanueva said. "So they'll have a lot of salt water flooding, inland flooding, 12 inches of rain, winds of 145 mph. Lot of damage."

Further weakening is expected as Beryl interacts with the mountains of Jamaica and continues to see some wind shear.

By this evening, Beryl should be a Category 3 storm. Then it will move close to the Cayman Islands and push toward the Yucutan Peninsula by Friday.

As it crosses Mexico, it's expected to weaken further, reemerge in the Bay of Campeche, and then push toward the U.S.-Mexico border as a tropical storm.

Behind Beryl, we are also watching tropical wave Invest 96. It has a low chance of development.

"It seems like really not much is gonna happen with that. It's battling too much wind shear," Villanueva said.
