Just because it’s a hot summer doesn’t mean things have slowed down at the Norton Museum of Art.

On view now at the West Palm Beach institution are a series of sculptures by Auguste Rodin as well as canvases by Pop Art masters.

The six sculptures by Rodin (1840-1917), generally considered to be France’s greatest sculptor, come to the museum on loan from the Collection of Iris Cantor and the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation. Five of the works are small-scale, including an 1885 representation of a pianist’s hand, and an 1897 study of the head of Honoré de Balzac for a planned monument to the eminent French writer.

“It’s a treat for us to showcase these treasures that offer a window into the creative mind of Rodin,” said Ghislain d’Humières, the Norton’s CEO, in a prepared statement. “And we are grateful to Iris Cantor and the Cantor Foundation for the opportunity to share these works with the public.”

Meanwhile, works by some of the most important American creators of the 20th century are showcased in an exhibit called “15 Minutes: A Moment in Pop Art.”

Among the works are “Flowers,” (1964) by Andy Warhol, and Roy Lichtenstein’s “Water Lilies With Cloud,” (1992) one of a series of works paying homage to the water lily paintings of French Impressionist Claude Monet.

Paintings by James Rosenquist, Robert Indiana and Frank Stella also are part of the exhibition in the Friedman Gallery.

“We can all relate to these artworks,” said J. Rachel Gustafson, the Norton’s chief curatorial operations and research officer, in a prepared statement. “These sculptures and paintings resonate because they evoke universal truths — whether that be the gesture of a musician’s hand, as we see with Rodin, or the messages of the mass consumer and popular culture in Warhol’s work that began after World War II and continue to this day.”

The museum at 1450 S. Dixie Highway in West Palm Beach is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday. The museum is closed Tuesdays.
