    Ozark Spring NSDAR hosts Missouri NSSAR event

    On Saturday, April 13, the Ozark Spring, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (Ozark Spring, NSDAR) hosted the Josiah Howell Chapter, National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (Josiah Howell, NSSAR) New Charter and Induction of New Members Event at the American Legion Hall, 1401 Bill Virdon Blvd., West Plains.

    Incoming State of Missouri NSSAR President, Mr. Gene Henry, and Outgoing Missouri NSSAR President, Mr. David Shaul, along with other Chapter NSSAR members participated in chartering the new chapter, and welcomed new Josiah Howell, NSSAR Members. Ozark Spring, NSDAR Daughters presented a commemorative cake and served as hostesses.

    During the ceremonial events, Ozark Spring, NSDAR Past Chapter Regent, Ms. Cindy Pirch was awarded the Lydia Darragh Medal by Outgoing Missouri NSSAR President, Mr. David Shaul for her role in the chartering of the Josiah Howell Chapter. The Lydia Darragh Medal is named for an Irish woman who is said to have crossed enemy lines during the Revolutionary War to deliver information to George Washington. NSSAR presents the prestigious award to a lady who provides significant service and or engages in work behind the scenes in support of NSSAR.

NSSAR is open to any male 18 years or older-regardless of race, religion or ethnic background – who can prove blood lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution.

    The National Society Website states that the “National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (NSSAR) was founded in 1889 and is headquartered in Louisville, Ky. NSSAR is a non- profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history and promoting education to our future generations.

    NSSAR members volunteer untold hours of service each year in their local communities and are continually active in assisting veterans. They proudly assist teachers with living history interpreters and lesson planning materials and reenactment events for school aged youth to attend. As one of the largest male societies in the country, NSSAR boasts tens of thousands of active members in over 550 chapters across the United States and internationally.
