On July 1, 2024, at 6:22 p.m., deputies with the Troup County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Yellow Jacket Beach on West Point Lake regarding a possible drowning.

While deputies were responding to the location, dispatch advised that the victim, a three-year-old child had been pulled from the water and CPR was in progress by citizens at the location.

When deputies and other first responders arrived on the scene, they took over the lifesaving measures of the child.

According to Stewart Smith of the Troup County Sheriff’s Office, the child was airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta where we understand is still receiving treatment. This appears to be a tragic accident.

This story will be updated when more information becomes available.
