Missouri lawsuits allege abuse by Catholic priests, nuns. Archdiocese leader in Omaha among them
ST. LOUIS (AP) — Sixty people allege in new lawsuits filed in Missouri that they were abused as children by dozens of Catholic priests, nuns and others, and the man who now leads the Archdiocese of Omaha, Nebraska, is among the accused. Five separate lawsuits seeking unspecified damages were filed this week in St. Louis and neighboring counties. All told, the lawsuits name 56 alleged abusers. The suits seek unspecified damages. Among those named is Omaha Archbishop George Lucas. He is accused of abusing a teenage boy at St. Louis Preparatory Seminary in the late 1980s. Lucas strongly denies the allegations, saying in a statement that he has never had sexual contact with another person.

LINCOLN - Columbus and Fremont will play the 105th meeting of the historic F&C Cup, Highway 30 rivalry at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln on Saturday, Sept. 21. Otoe County Fair exhibitors were busy on Wednesday morning, July 24, on the fairgrounds in Syracuse as they checked in various entries for this year’s event. Among the throng of fair competitors was Duane Hansen, the man famous for growing a pumpkin big enough and tough enough to endure a 38-mile journey on the Missouri River back in 2022.
Local Truck Inspections Held in Fremont
Troopers with the Nebraska State Patrol (NSP) Carrier Enforcement Division conducted local commercial vehicle inspections on July 23rd and 24th in Fremont, Nebraska. During this effort, the Metropolitan Aggressive and Prevention Selective (MAPS) Team conducted 66 vehicle inspections. Troopers discovered 154 violations of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and state law. Troopers placed 16 vehicles out of service (not allowed to return to the road). Additionally, troopers issued a total of 35 CVSA decals. The decals indicate that the vehicle inspected did not have any immediate safety issues.

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. (KSNB) - The Central District Health Department reported the first human case of West Nile Virus in the area and advises precautions. The West Nile Virus is the leading cause of mosquito-borne disease in the county. It is most commonly spread to people by the bite of an infected mosquito. Cases of West Nile occur during mosquito season, which starts in the summer and continues through fall, according to the health department.
