Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty announces "Conviction Integrity Unit"
MINNEAPOLIS — Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty on Monday announced a new unit to review past cases for mistakes and unjustified convictions.The "Conviction Integrity Unit" is "another step toward ensuring justice, accountability and transparency," Moriarty's office said in a release."No prosecutor here wants to see someone convicted for a crime they did not commit, the actual perpetrator free to do more harm, or victims left with questions," Moriarty said. MINNEAPOLIS — St. Paul native and Olympic gold medalist Sunisa Lee will again represent the U.S. as part of the Women's Gymnastics team at the Paris Games this summer.Lee will be joined on the five-woman team by Simone Biles, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera.Lee was second only to Biles in all-around scoring at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials this past weekend in Minneapolis, and she scored the highest on the uneven bars. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz to visit Rapidan Dam Tuesday
RAPIDAN TOWNSHIP, Minn. — Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on Tuesday will visit the site of disastrous flooding in southern Minnesota, which partially damaged a dam and led to the destruction of at least two historic buildings.Raging waters caused an abutment of the 114-year-old Rapidan Dam to partially fail on June 24. Tyreece Gilligan knew her body would change when she got pregnant. April through June saw record-breaking rain...St. Croix starting to recede
(St. Paul, MN) -- The last three months will go down in the state weather record books for highest average rainfall in Minnesota. Pete Boulay with the State Climatology Office says this April through June was the wettest on record with a preliminary total of around 17 inches of precipitation. Boulay says the previous record was 15.22 inches in April, May and June of 2014. Finland on the North Shore received 17-and-a-half inches of rain over the past three months. He says last year at this time the drought was ramping up in Minnesota.
