Gov. Walz encourages applications to three programs for new farmers
(Pine Island, MN)--Gov. Tim Walz wants new farmers to take advantage of three state programs to help them get started in agriculture. The governor was in Pine Island this week to talk about the need to get more young people interested in farming. Walz said the state will begin accepting applications for the beginning farmer loan program, the down payment assistance program and the beginning farmer tax credit on August 1st.

A man at the center of KARE 11’s investigation into gaps in Minnesota’s criminal justice and mental health systems was sentenced to 38 years in prison Friday. Earlier this year Joseph Sandoval agreed to plead guilty to murdering two men at a St. Paul sober home on October 20, 2022 – the same day he moved in.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (FOX 9) - The St. Paul man who pleaded guilty to fatally stabbing two men at a sober living house in 2022 was sentenced Friday. According to court records, Joseph Sandoval II, 34, was sentenced to 278 months with credit for 638 days already served for the first count of second-degree murder with intent. He was sentenced to 180 months for the second count of second-degree murder with intent. Sandoval is to serve the sentences consecutively, totaling 458 months, or about 38 years.
