Lightning strikes West Seneca home; Heavy rain causes flooding in Hamburg

Authorities in West Seneca battled a house fire Wednesday caused by a lightning strike.

The West Seneca Police Department says crews responded to a home on Holland Avenue where flames could be seen shooting from the roof.

Police say everyone inside the home has made it out safely.

The lightning struck as severe storms rolled through Western New York Wednesday afternoon.

Those severe storms also caused flooding in Hamburg.

Draudt's Farm Market & Greenhouses posted photos on its Facebook page of flooding that caused it to close for the remainder of Wednesday. It plans on reopening at 9 a.m. on Thursday.

Pictures sent in by a viewer from Lakeview also showed quarter to half-inch-sized hail falling in parts of the region.
