WEST UNION, W.Va. (WBOY) — A man has been charged after allegedly hitting a victim in the head with a shovel multiple times in Doddridge County.

On April 14, troopers with the Doddridge County detachment of the West Virginia State Police received a call for assistance at a residence on Orchard Street in West Union, according to a criminal complaint.

When troopers arrived, they made contact with a victim who had “a large gaping laceration to the left side of his head,” and the victim stated that “he was hit on the head on two occasions with a shovel,” and that it was Richard Ogden, 44, of Stockport, Ohio, who struck him, troopers said.

A witness at the scene stated that the victim and Ogden had gotten into a physical altercation at the Orchard Street residence, and during that time Ogden “retrieved a shovel from the back seat of his vehicle” and then “struck the victim in the head two times,” according to the complaint.
